A Snowman's Curiosity


Supplies Needed

Animation Shop

“Winter” is a FTU tagger size scrap kit created by Lynx the Minx and can be downloaded from her site here.  
  
This tutorial was written assuming you have a working knowledge of PSP. 

~~ Let’s get started ~~

Open up the template.
Shift + D
Close out the original.
Delete the credit layer.

Highlight Temp Layer 1.
Click on each of the lines with your Magic Wand.
Copy and paste Paper 5 as a new layer.
Move the paper so the evergreens covers the template.
Right click on the paper in your layers pallet and choose “Promote Section to Layer”.
Close out the original paper layer.
Click the lock icon at the top of your layers pallet.
Highlight the promoted layer.
Adjust/Blur/Gaussian blur:
Radius: 10
OK
Click the lock at the top of the layers pallet to unlock the layer.
Deselect.
Delete the template layer.
Give the promoted layer a slight Inner Bevel:

Highlight Temp Layer 2.
Repeat the above step.
Delete the original paper layer.

Highlight Temp Layer 3.
Click on it with your Magic Wand.
New Raster layer.
Copy and paste Paper 4 Into Section.
Apply Brush Strokes – Crosshatch:
Stroke Length: 9
Sharpness: 6
Strength: 1
OK
Deselect.
Delete the template layer.

Highlight Temp Layer 4.
Repeat the above step.

Highlight Temp Layer 5.
Click on it with your Magic Wand.
Copy and paste Paper 3 as a new layer over the template layer.
Right click on the paper in your layers pallet and choose “Promote Section to Layer”
Apply Brush Strokes – Crosshatch:
Use same settings.
OK
Deselect.
Delete original paper layer.
Delete Template layer.

In your layers pallet move Temp Layer 8 over Temp  Layer 6.
Move Temp Layer 10 over Temp Layer 8.
Move Temp Layer 12 over Temp Layer 10.
Rename this Merged Rec Temp.
From here on, in this tutorial I will refer to areas as Top, Right, Left, and Bottom.

Highlight Merged Rec Temp and click on the Right rectangle.
Copy and paste Paper 4 as a new layer over the template.
Resize 35%
Move into a position you like.
Right Click on the paper in your layers pallet and choose “Promote Section to Layer”.
Deselect.
Delete the template layer.

Move the original paper over the Left template layer.
Repeat the above step.

Repeat the above step with the Top and Bottom template layers.
Delete the original paper.

Highlight Template 13.
Merge Down 3 times.
All 4 frames should now be on the same layer.
Select All/Float/Defloat.
New Raster layer above the merged layer.
Copy and paste Paper 2 Into Selection.  Rename this layer Paper Frames.
Give it the same slight Inner Bevel.
Adjust/Add Remove Noise/add Noise:
Uniform and Monochrome checked
Noise: 33%
OK
Deselect.
Delete the merged template layers.

Highlight Merged Rec Temp.
Click on the top template.
Selections/Invert
Highlight the paper layer that that belongs to this template shape.
Copy and paste the following elements – see my tag for reference:
El 25:  Resize 40%.
El 15:  Resize 10%
El 38:  Resize 25% and 75%/Duplicate
Highlight each element and tap the delete key.
Deselect.

Highlight Merged Rec Temp.
Click on the left template.
Highlight the paper that belongs to that particular template.
Selections/Invert
Copy and paste the following elements above the paper that belongs to this template shape – see my tag for reference.
Cloud 1:  Resize 40%/Use Pick Tool to flatten
El 12: Resize 40%
El 3:  Resize 20%
el 33:  Resize 15% and 70%
Treelog:  Resize 10% and 70%
El 4:  Resize 15% and 60%
Highlight each element and tap the delete key.
Deselect.

Highlight Merged Rec Temp.
Click on the right template.
Selections/Invert
Copy and paste the following elements over the paper that belongs to this template shape - see my tag for reference.
Cloud 1:  Resoze 40%/Use Pick to flatten
El 3:  Resize 20%
El 3 (again):  Resize 40%
El8:  Resize 15% and 50%
Highlight each element and tap the delete key.
Deselect.

Highlight Merged Rec Temp.
Click on the Bottom template.
Selections/Invert
Copy and paste the following elements over the paper that belongs to this template shape – see my tag for reference.
El 47:  Resize 40%
El 35:  Resize 45%
Highlight each element and tap the delete key.
Deselect.
Duplicate the snowman element and move above the frames in your layers pallet.
Highlight the frame paper that belongs to the snowman.
Click inside of it with your Magic Wand.
Selections/Invert
Highlight the snowman element that’s above the frame and use your Eraser Tool to erase only the bottom part of the element.
Deselect.

Apply Eyecandy Nature – Snowdrift to the snowman element that is above the frames in your layers pallet.
From the Settings tab choose “Dusting, Light”
On the Basic Tab, play around with the scales of each and give the snowman the effect you want.

Copy and paste Element 22 as a new layer.
Resize 25%
Duplicate/Resize 70%
Duplicate/Resize 70%
Move elements into position – see my tag for reference.
Duplicate/flip/mirror all 3 elements.
Move into position – see my tag for reference.

Copy and paste Cloud 1 as a new layer.
Resize 40%
Duplicate and then Merge Down.
Duplicate/Mirror
Join elements by overlapping at the center and erase what you don’t want seen – the snow should cross the entire bottom of your image.
Use the Eraser Tool to soften the ends.
Use the Pick tool to flatten it a little.

Highlight your white background.
New Raster layer.
Select All.
Copy and paste Paper 5 Into Selection.
Deselect.
Apply the mask.
Merge Group.

Add your copyrights.

Add your name.
Color Pallet:
Foreground and Background: #bd1a11
Stroke width: 1
Type your name.
Convert to Raster layer.
Give it the same slight Inner Bevel
If you like, duplicate the snow layer.
Resize 50%/Mirror
Place at the base in front of your name.

Open up the snow.
Copy Frame 1.
Make your working canvas active.
Paste as a new layer just below the Paper Frames.
Rename this layer S1

Make the snow active.
Copy Frame 2.
Make your working canvas active.
Paste as a new layer just below the Paper Frames.
Rename this layer S2.

Continue copying, pasting, and renaming the snow layers on your working canvas.
Once you have done that:
Highlight Merged Rec Temp.
Click anywhere outside of the shapes with your Magic Wand.
Highlight each layer of snow and tap the delete key.
Deselect.

Close out Merge Rec Temp.
I hope nothing went wrong, but just to be on the safe side, DO NOT delete this layer.

Close out all the snow layers accept for S1.
Copy Merged.

~Time to Animate~

Open up Animation Shop.
Edit/Paste/As New Animation.

Back in PSP.
Close out S1.
Open up S2.
Copy Merged.

Carry into AS.
Edit/Paste/After Current Frame.

Back in PSP.
Close out S2.
Open up S3.
Copy Merged.

Carry into AS.
Edit/Paste/After Current Frame.

Back in PSP.
Close out S3.
Open up S4.
Copy Merged.

Carry into AS.
Edit/Paste/After Current Frame.

Back in PSP.
Close out S4.
Open up S5.
Copy Merged.

Carry into AS.
Edit/Paste/After Current Frame.

Back in PSP.
Close out S5.
Open up S6.
Copy Merged.

Carry into AS.
Edit/Paste/After Current Frame.

Back in PSP.
Close out S6.
Open up S7.
Copy Merged.

Carry into AS.
Edit/Paste/After Current Frame.

Back in PSP.
Close out S7.
Open up S8.
Copy Merged.

Carry into AS.
Edit/Paste/After Current Frame.

Back in PSP.
Close out S8.
Open up S9.
Copy Merged.

Carry into AS.
Edit/Paste/After Current Frame.

Back in PSP.
Close out S9.
Open up S10
Copy Merged.

Carry into AS.
Edit/Paste/After Current Frame.

Click on the View Animation button to view your animation:

DON’T PANIC if your animation is going the wrong way!
Easy Fix:
Hit Ctrl + A on your keyboard (to highlight all frames)
Animation/Reverse Frames
Click on the View Animation button and the snow should be going the correct way now.

If you’re happy with the animation then save –
File/Save
Choose where you’d like to save your animation to and then click “Next” on the next couple of screens that pop up.
And then click “Finish” on the last.
