Vintage Christmas


Supplies Needed

Font of choice – I used Naila here

“Vintage Christmas” is a FTU scrap kit created by Barbara of A Cowgirls Creations and can be downloaded from her store here.  Be sure to check out her blog here
  
This tutorial was written assuming you have a working knowledge of PSP. 

~~ Let’s get started ~~

Open up a 700 x 700 blank canvas.
Flood fill white.

Copy and paste Frame as a new layer.
Resize 60%.
Click inside of each frame with your Magic Wand.
Selections/Modify/Expand by 4.
New Raster layer below the frame.
Copy and paste Paper BG Paper 3 Into Selection.
Duplicate and change the Opacity of this layer to Multiply.
Deselect for now.

Copy and paste Winter Trees as a new layer below the frame.
Resize 30%
Move the element so the smaller tree is in the lower frame.
Duplicate the element and move into position beneath the higher frame so the larger tree is within the frame.
Highlight the paper layer.
Click anywhere outside of it with your Magic Wand.
Highlight each element layer and tap the delete key.
DO NOT DESELECT.

Open up the snow that I provided for this tutorial.
Copy Frame 1.
Make your working canvas active and paste just below the frame as a new layer.
Rename this layer S1.

Make the snow layers active.
Highlight and copy Frame 2.
Back in PSP – paste as a new layer just above S1 layer.
Rename this layer S2.

Repeat the above steps until all 10 snow layers are copied onto your working canvas and are renamed S1 through S10.

Highlight each snow layer and tap the delete key.
Close out all snow layers accept for S1.

Copy and paste Holly Sprig as a new layer.
Resize 35%
Press “K” on your keyboard to activate your Pick Tool.
Turn the element and place behind the lower frame – see my tag for reference.
Duplicate/Mirror/Flip and place behind the higher frame.  Use your Pick Tool to turn if needed.

Copy and paste Vintage Children as a new layer.
Resize 40%
Move into position – see my tag for reference.

Copy and paste Fence as a new layer behind the Vintage Children.
Resize 60%
Make your Selection Tool active set on Rectangle.
Section out a portion of the fence behind the children – see my tag for reference.

Right click on the element in your layers pallet and choose “Promote Section to Layer”.
DO NOT DESELECT.
Delete the original fence layer.
Highlight the working fence layer.
Selections/Invert
Selections/Modify/Inside Outside Feather:
Both checked
Feather Amount: 20
OK
Tap the delete key a couple of times until you get a nice feathered look on each side of the fence.
Deselect.

Add your elements.  I used:
Pines:  Resize 15%
Sled:  Resize 25%

Highlight your white background.
New Raster layer.
Select All.
Copy and paste BG Paper 3 Into Selection.
Deselect.
Apply the mask.
Merge Group.
Duplicate and change the Opacity to Multiply.

Add your copyrights.

Add your name.
Color Pallet:
Foreground: #af8761
Background: #37261a
Stroke width: 1
Type your name.
 Convert to Raster Layer.
Give it a slight Inner Bevel:

Copy Merged.

~Time to Animate~

Open up Animation Shop.
Edit/Paste as New Animation.

Back in PSP.
Close out S1.
Open up S2.
Copy Merged.

Carry into AS.
Edit/Paste/After Current Frame.

Back in PSP.
Close out S2.
Open up S3.
Copy Merged.

Carry into AS.
Edit/Paste/After Current Frame.

Continue doing this until you have all 10 snow layers copied and pasted into AS.

View your animation.
Don’t panic if it’s going backward!  That’s an easy fix…
Ctrl + A to highlight all frames.
Animation/Reverse Frames

If you’re happy with your animation –
Animation/Resize Animation –
Click Pixel Size
Width x Height – 600
OK
Save your animation.

Homespun Christmas



Supplies Needed

1 tube of choice – I used the artwork of Nocturne which can be purchased from Pics for Design.

Font of choice – I used Valentine here

Plug Ins used:
Brush Stroke – Crosshatch
Mura’s Meister – Copies

This tutorial was written assuming you have a working knowledge of PSP. 

~~ Let’s get started ~~

Open up the template.
Shift + D.
Close out the original.
Delete the credit layer, Level 7, and Level 6.

Highlight Level 1.
Click on it with your Magic Wand.
New Raster layer.
Copy and paste Paper 2 Into Selection.
Apply Brush Strokes – Crosshatch:
Stroke length: 9
Sharpness: 6
Strength: 2
OK
Deselect.
Delete the template layer.

Highlight Level 2.
Click on it with your Magic Wand.
New Raster layer.
Copy and paste Paper 5 Into Selection.
Apply Brush Strokes – Crosshatch:
Use same settings
OK
Deselect.
Delete the template layer.

Highlight Level 3 layer.
Click on it with your Magic Wand.
New Raster layer.
Copy and paste Paper 4 Into Selection.
Apply Crosshatch 2x’s to the paper.
Deselect.
Delete the template layer.

Copy and paste the Poinsetta element as a new layer.
Resize 10%
Apply Mura’s Meister – Copies:
Choose Encircle
Change the top 3 numbers as follows:
Number: 30
Shift X: 70
Shift Y: 70
OK

Place the poinsettia ring below the paper you just worked on.

Highlight Level 4.
Click on it with your Magic Wand.
New Raster layer.
Copy and paste Paper 6 Into Selection.
Lock the layer.
Adjust/Blur/Gaussian Blur:
Radius: 5
OK
Unlock the layer.
Deselect.
Apply Crosshatch to the paper layer.

Highlight Level 5.
Click on it with your Magic Wand.
New Raster layer.
Copy and paste Paper 9 Into Selection.
Copy and paste element HRLD_Christmas_GrabBag_TREES_02 as a new layer.
Move the tree into position over the paper – see my tag for reference.
Selections/Invert
Tap the delete key.
Deselect.

Highlight Level 8.
Click on each rectangle.
New Raster layer.
Copy and paste Paper 7 Into Selection.
Deselect.
Delete the template layer.

Highlight Level 12.
Merge Down.
Merge Down again.
Level’s 12, 11, and 10 should now be all on the same layer.
Select All/Float/Defloat
New Raster layer.
Paste Paper 8 (it should still be in memory) Into Selection.
Deselect.
Delete the template layer.

Highlight Level 9.
Click on each rectangle with your Magic Wand.
New Raster layer.
Copy and paste Paper 8 Into Selection.
Copy and paste your tube as a new layer over the paper.  Move into a position you like – see my tag for reference.
Right click on your tube in your layers pallet and choose “Promote Section to Layer”.
Change the Opacity of this tube layer to Overlay.
Delete the original tube layer.
Delete the template layer.

Copy and pate your tube as a new layer.
Move into position in front of the Christmas tree – see my tag for reference.

Add your elements.  I used:
Snowflakes 1 & 2:  Resize 5%/Duplicate as many times as you like, resizing some of them
Christmas Elements 2_Pine Branch_Scrap and Tubes:  Resize 50%
Acc HSC  key:  Resize 10%/erase the ribbon on it/Duplicate the key and turn slightly
Swag: Resize 20%/Duplicate 2x’s
Bow:  Resize 15%/Duplicate
Acc HSC tree cones:  Resize 15%
Acc HSC snowman:  Resize 15%
Acc HSC Christmouse:  Resize 5%

Highlight your white background.
New Raster layer.
Select All.
Copy and paste Paper 5 Into Selection.
Deselect.
Adjust/Blur/Gaussian Blur:
Radius: 5
OK
Apply the mask.
Merge Group.

Add your copyrights.

Add your name.
Color Pallet:
Foreground: #37261a
Background: #861b1b
Stroke width: 1
Type your name.
 Convert to Raster Layer.
Give it a slight Inner Bevel:

Select All/Float/Defloat
Selections/Modify/Expand by 2.
New Raster layer below your name.
Flood fill with #e5c07b
Adjust/Add Remove Noise/Add Noise:
Random and Monochrome checked
Noise: 30%
OK

Merge Visible both name layers.
